Tages Capital SGR, an asset manager specialising in alternative investment funds in private markets and the second-largest photovoltaic operator in Italy, has announced the completion of the acquisition of a portfolio of two greenfield biomethane production plants.
This marks the second investment by the Tages Helios Net Zero fund, an infrastructure fund of Tages Capital SGR dedicated to the energy transition.
Specifically, two biomethane plants to be built were acquired, located in Apulia and Basilicata, in the provinces of Foggia and Potenza, respectively. The seller is Finpower Project S.r.l., which has been active for over 20 years in the development of renewable energy projects.
Each plant will have a production capacity of approximately 500 Smc/h (standard cubic metres per hour) of biomethane, generated from the annual processing of around 140,000 tonnes of raw materials supplied by nearby agricultural sites and processed through anaerobic digestion.
The plants are expected to become operational in the first half of 2026, and the biomethane production will be entirely derived from the transformation of agricultural by-products, livestock waste, and agricultural residues not suitable for human consumption.
The produced biomethane will be fed into the gas grid via a SNAM delivery point to be built on each plant site. The plants are already included in the incentive system established by Ministerial Decree 2022.
The plants will be managed by Metania, a company founded by Tages Capital SGR for biomethane initiatives, led by Chairman Massimo Travella and CEO Stefano Boscolo.
This transaction follows the October acquisition of an initial portfolio of four operational biogas plants in the provinces of Pavia and Cremona, which are to be converted to biomethane. Tages completes another significant deal, further consolidating its role as a key player in the agricultural biomethane sector and the national energy transition.
The deal aligns with Tages’ investment philosophy, which focuses on enhancing strategic assets - particularly in the biomethane sector—thus actively contributing to the development of a rapidly growing market.
The transaction was carried out by the Tages Capital SGR investment team, led by Managing Director Guido Prearo and including Investment Director Giovanni Damia and Investment Analyst Martina Ciarla. Legal matters were handled by Tages’ in-house legal team, directed by Head of Legal Affairs Marcello Ciampi and Legal Counsel Benedetta Micucci.
