SPEAKER INTERVIEW – Negative emissions pellet production

On 19-20 October, we will be hosting the International Biomass Congress & Expo in Brussels, alongside the International Biogas Congress & Expo and the Biofuels International Conference.

Ahead of the event, we caught up with some of the speakers and asked them to share a bit about themselves and the area of the industry they are focused on. Here, we speak to Manish Verma, business development manager at Swedish Exergy, which specialises in drying and evaporation technology for the biomass industry.

Could you tell our readers about yourself and your experience in the industry?

I was born in India, grew up in Sweden and got my masters in entrepreneurship and management from a university in Scotland. I have been working for Swedish Exergy since 2010. We have increased our focus on biomass and how we can help the industry in reducing their carbon footprint, which I am glad to see has already become part of the dialogue. The industry is shifting towards not only reducing carbon footprint but also towards increasing operational safety and using many more kind of biomass for energy.

Can you tell us what you will be discussing in your talk at the 2021 conference?

My focus will be on how energy/pellet production, taking into all aspects, can be carbon neutral or even carbon negative and how this can be done by reusing the energy recovered from the Swedish Exergy dryer multiple times.

What are you most looking forward to about the International Biomass Congress & Expo?

I am looking forward to meeting the decision-makers, clients, suppliers, and innovators in the industry who, together, can work towards a carbon-negative industry.

The event will bring together leading producers, suppliers, regulators and other relevant organisations over two days to discuss policy, innovation, and much more. High-level speakers, experts in their field, will address a range of topical issues related to the biomass sector.

Manish Verma’s talk is scheduled to take place at 2.45pm on 20 October. More information can be found on the International Biomass Congress & Expo event page, including how to register to attend.
