New UK waste biomethane price index set for September launch

This move reflects the expanding market and increased tradability of UK waste Renewable Gas Guarantees of Origin, particularly those that have secured ISCC certification.
The number of UK biomethane production sites with ISCC certification is steadily rising, enhancing access to continental European markets thanks to more detailed Proof of Sustainability data linked to certified volumes.
The proposed assessments will cover both current-year and year-ahead contract vintages, applying a carbon intensity range of 0 to 25 g CO2e/MJ for waste certificates, with a minimum trade volume set at 1 GWh.
Spot assessments will be based on transactions for immediate delivery, where contracts have a minimum validity of three months. Forward assessments will reflect trades for delivery in the next calendar year.
Price assessments will be published in GBP/MWh, alongside a conversion to EUR/MWh, and will be released daily at 16:30 London time, observing the UK holiday calendar.
Certification under schemes such as ISCC and REDCert remains voluntary but is increasingly recognised for improving the fungibility and market acceptance of biomethane Guarantees of Origin.
Platts is inviting industry feedback on the proposal by 18 July,
