Germany's Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has awarded a total of 187.3 megawatts (MW) to 244 biomass projects in the latest round of its competitive tendering process.
This outcome reflects the country's ongoing commitment to expanding renewable energy capacity through market-based mechanisms.
The tender, part of Germany's Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), is designed to ensure a competitive and transparent allocation of subsidies for renewable energy projects.
Under the EEG, biomass projects are subject to annual capacity expansion targets, with a specified amount of new capacity auctioned each year.
The 244 awarded projects encompass a diverse range of biomass technologies, including biogas plants and solid biomass installations.
These projects are spread across various regions of Germany, contributing to the decentralisation of renewable energy production and enhancing energy security.
The successful projects will receive support through the EEG's market premium model, which compensates operators for the difference between the market price and a fixed remuneration level.
This approach aims to incentivise efficient and cost-effective energy production while reducing reliance on fixed feed-in tariffs.
