Freedom CNG, a US-based provider of compressed renewable natural gas (C/RNG), has acquired ComTech Energy, a Canadian company specialising in mobile fuelling solutions for low-carbon fuels.
The acquisition enables Freedom CNG to extend its services beyond fixed refuelling stations, introducing a hub-and-spoke model to offer mobile on-site refuelling across North America.
This approach is aimed at supporting commercial fleets and other high-usage customers adopting lower-carbon fuel alternatives.
Following the acquisition, ComTech’s former president, James Ro, has joined Freedom as Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer.
“This partnership gives us the opportunity to scale up our distribution model and reach more customers as demand for renewable natural gas grows,” said Ro.
Freedom CNG President and CFO Nick Kurtenbach said the acquisition strengthens the company’s ability to provide refuelling infrastructure for organisations transitioning to cleaner energy.
“ComTech’s expertise and mobile assets allow us to support customers in a wider range of locations and provide more flexible fuelling options,” he said.
Freedom now operates over 25 C/RNG fuelling stations and more than 60 operations and maintenance sites across North America. The addition of ComTech’s mobile services is intended to improve access for fleets and organisations seeking alternatives to diesel.
Kurtenbach said the two companies would work together to support the wider adoption of lower-carbon transport fuels.
