ENplus® marks 15 years as ‘the global benchmark for wood pellet quality’

Established in 2010, ENplus has played a defining role in creating a transparent and dependable pellet market, ensuring that consumers and businesses alike can trust the quality of every certified pellet.
What began as a European initiative has evolved into an international benchmark for quality assurance.
Today, ENplus certifies producers, traders and service providers in nearly 50 countries.
Through clear standards and rigorous quality control, the scheme has strengthened efficiency, confidence and fairness throughout the global pellet supply chain.
“Fifteen years ago, ENplus was launched with a simple but powerful goal: to ensure consistent, high-quality pellets for consumers,” said Elena Dumitru, Certification Director at ENplus.
“Today, the certification stands as a symbol of trust and professionalism across the industry. This is also reflected in the recognition of the European Cooperation for Accreditation, as ENplus is the only accredited scheme for wood pellet quality.”
More than 1,300 companies now hold ENplus® certification, spanning the entire pellet value chain. ENplus-certified pellets account for around 75% of the European heating market, providing reliable and efficient energy to millions of users.
The success of the scheme rests on its unwavering commitment to quality assurance. ENplus continuously updates its technical standards and auditing procedures through a multistakeholder approach, ensuring consistent pellet performance and safety across all certified operations.
The introduction of an advanced digital database, verification tools, and active fraud management has further enhanced transparency and traceability while preventing misuse of the certification.
ENplus is also recognised for its dedication to protecting its trademark, with all income reinvested in the bioenergy sector through the activities of the European Pellet Council and its member organisations.
“Alongside our partners — the national licensers, promoting associations and conformity assessment bodies — our mission has always been clear: to make pellet quality measurable, verifiable and reliable,” added Dumitru. “This 15th anniversary marks not only our success but also the trust of an entire industry built on quality assurance.”
To mark the milestone, ENplus has planned a series of celebratory activities.
An online quiz will offer branded gifts to participants who demonstrate their knowledge of the scheme, while testimonials from certified companies and partners will be shared across social media.
The certification body will also support a social responsibility project in Uganda, aimed at replacing old coal-pellet stoves with modern, cleaner pellet-based models.
