Eco Sustainable Solutions unveils biomethane refuelling plan

The facility, once operational, aims to serve Eco’s own fleet, as well as potentially providing access to clean fuel for third-party operators across the region.
The depot will be supplied with renewable biomethane generated from food waste collected locally from areas including Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and the New Forest.
The project represents a closed-loop model, converting community food waste into vehicle fuel that can be used to service the same local area.
The biomethane will be produced at Eco’s new anaerobic digestion (AD) facility, currently under construction and scheduled for commissioning in November 2025.
Once operational, the depot will be capable of refuelling up to three HGVs simultaneously.
The company estimates that the new facility could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,600 tonnes per year.
Justin Dampney, Managing Director of Eco Sustainable Solutions, commented: “This is about enabling long-term, localised carbon savings in the transport sector. By using fuel derived from the food waste we process, the depot will help reduce emissions where it’s traditionally been hardest – heavy goods transport. This isn’t just a solution for our fleet. In time, the depot could provide clean fuel for other operators too – all powered by local food waste.”
If approved, the facility will position Eco Sustainable Solutions as a key enabler of sustainable logistics infrastructure in the South West, according to the company.
