Charwood Energy, a French specialist in bespoke biomass energy solutions, has announced two new project contracts worth over €2.4 million.
The projects, developed in collaboration with Idex - a key player in France’s low-carbon energy sector - focus on the construction of advanced biomass heating systems for municipal and industrial applications.
The first contract involves the delivery of a containerised biomass heating system for the municipality of Val d’Isère in Savoie.
Charwood Energy is designing and constructing a compact silo and a 750 kW pellet-fired system.
Located in a mountainous area under consideration as a potential venue for the 2030 Winter Olympic Games, the project poses unique logistical challenges.
The installation will include three 250 kW boilers, a buffer tank, and complete piping, electrical, and automation systems.
The prefabricated silo, made up of two stacked concrete modules with a pellet loader, was developed at the Saint-Nolff facility of Charwood Energy’s engineering subsidiary, Energy&+.
The contract, signed in the second quarter of 2024 for €450,000, is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025, with two-thirds of the value already invoiced in 2024.
The second project concerns a turnkey modular biomass heating system for a poultry slaughterhouse in Plouray, Brittany, aimed at decarbonising its heat production.
To minimise disruption at the site, the system was prefabricated at the Saint-Nolff site.
It includes an 850 kW SCHMID ENERGY boiler with a 900 kW gas backup, three 90 m³ buffer tanks, full piping, electrical systems, automation controls, and an electrofilter to limit particulate emissions.
The contract also covers civil engineering work, a toploader, and a direct discharger for transporting woodchip biomass to the boiler.
The existing steam process piping at the site will be replaced with a hot water circuit.
Signed in early 2025 for €2 million, the project will be billed across 2025 and 2026.
Eric Fossard, deputy CEO of Charwood Energy, said: "These two projects showcase Charwood Energy’s capability to provide bespoke, technically robust solutions across diverse sectors.
