AURI and BPC Instruments partner to advance biogas innovation

The Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) in Minnesota has announced a research partnership with Swedish firm BPC Instruments to expand biogas market opportunities from agricultural residues and organic waste streams.

The collaboration will see both teams working together at AURI's Bio-industrial Innovation Center in Waseca, Minnesota, focusing on method development and hands-on training for equipment operators.

AURI's Shannon Schlecht said biogas produced through anaerobic digestion can be converted into compressed natural gas, renewable natural gas, marine biofuels and electricity, highlighting the range of applications the partnership hopes to develop.

The initiative also aims to contribute to more standardised protocols for the broader Minnesota, Upper Midwest and US biogas industry.

BPC Instruments said it looks forward to generating high-quality data for anaerobic digestion experimentation through AURI's connections to the US bio-industrial and agricultural markets.
