Anaergia Inc. has signed a contract to provide an integrated waste-to-energy system for a PepsiCo Mexico Foods production facility, marking the company’s first project in Mexico and extending its long-standing partnership with PepsiCo.
The agreement, announced from Carlsbad, California and Burlington, Ontario, will see Anaergia’s subsidiary, Anaergia Technologies, LLC, supply high-efficiency digestion technology along with biogas conditioning and upgrading systems.
The installation is designed to convert around 50,000 tonnes of organic residuals each year into carbon-negative biomethane.
The biomethane produced will be used on site, replacing fossil natural gas and cutting an estimated 4,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. The project is expected to be operational before the end of 2026.
Salvador Alvarez, Senior Manager of Environmental Sustainability at PepsiCo Mexico Foods, said the initiative aligns with the company’s long-term commitments. “The economic and environmental benefits of this new project will strengthen our business for the long run,” he said.
Anaergia CEO Assaf Onn noted that the deal expands the company’s global work with Pepsi facilities. “North America is now the fourth continent where Anaergia has provided systems to Pepsi facilities,” he said. “This agreement is our first in Mexico, showcasing our ability to leverage our technological expertise to serve industry-leading clients globally.”
