Anaergia signs deal with Capwatt for first of nine new Italy biogas plants

The project, valued at approximately C$7.3 million (around €4.9 million), is scheduled to be operational by June 2026.
This agreement follows a binding letter of intent announced on 21 April 2025, covering nine biomethane projects expected to be completed within 30 months. Collectively, these projects are forecasted to generate over C$60 million (€40.3 million) in revenue for Anaergia.
Anaergia will oversee the design and construction of each facility, utilising cutting-edge technology including proprietary anaerobic digesters. These projects aim to bolster Europe’s green energy infrastructure and accelerate the production of renewable biomethane.
Metanext is the first plant in this ambitious series.
Sérgio Rocha, CEO of Capwatt, said: “The Metanext facility will have the capacity to produce 7.6 million cubic metres of high-quality biomethane annually. This is a significant step in fulfilling Capwatt’s commitment to sustainable energy production and supporting Europe’s energy transition.”
Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, added: “This contract marks an important milestone in our partnership with Capwatt, moving from the letter of intent to the launch of the first project. Leveraging Anaergia’s technical expertise and equipment, we are well positioned to deliver multiple projects simultaneously, meeting Capwatt’s requirements as proven in our previous collaborations.”
