PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), the fuel procurement arm of Indonesia's state electricity company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Geoenviron Engineering Technology Indonesia (GETI) to explore waste-to-energy opportunities including refuse-derived fuel and waste-to-energy conversion technologies.
GETI is a subsidiary of Beijing-based Geoenviron Engineering & Technology (BGE), which provides environmental technology and services including waste management and RDF solutions.
Under the agreement, the two companies will assess waste characteristics, identify potential feedstock sources and evaluate suitable conversion technologies. The initial assessment will also examine supply chain development, business models and the potential construction of supporting facilities.
PLN EPI biomass director Hokkop Situngkir said: "The signing of this memorandum of understanding is an important and strategic first step. It provides a legal foundation and a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration between PLN Energi Primer Indonesia and Geoenviron Engineering Technology in utilising waste to develop sustainable energy."
GETI technical director Li Chenyi said the company hoped the cooperation would progress from preliminary assessments to project implementation.
The partnership is at an early stage, with further assessments needed to determine which initiatives could be pursued jointly. PLN EPI is involved in developing bioenergy to support Indonesia's energy transition.
