A potential biogas boom?

The World Biogas Summit and Expo takes place at Birmingham NEC on 29 & 30 March. Charlotte Morton OBE, the association's chief executive, spoke to Bioenergy Insight about the WBA’s journey so far, and some new initiatives it is planning. It seems that the time has never been more ripe for a boom in biogas. Bioenergy Insight asked Morton what she felt the business opportunities were within the sector. “In a word, vast,” she said. “The world has been told that to prevent catastrophic climate change and costly chronic health conditions we must immediately curb methane emissions. Over 150 countries have signed the Global Methane Pledge to achieve this. “Anaerobic digestion and biogas can deliver 50% of this pledge, through the treatment of the 105bn tonnes of organic materials human activity creates every year and is currently treated as waste.” Furthermore, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is a proponent of AD deployment and biogas – stating...
