Past, present and the way ahead

Feature
Scandinavian countries are at the forefront of the renewable energy revolution. They have high shares of renewables in their energy mix, utilise domestic resources and have ambitious climate and energy targets consistent with their local needs. The success of these countries can serve as a model for other parts of the world for an efficient and clean utilisation of resources to meet energy needs.

Finding opportunity in the green transition

Feature
Nature Energy is Denmark’s leading producer of biogas, with capacity to convert 2,800,000 tonnes of waste into enough biogas to heat 70,000 households with sustainable energy each year. This success hasn’t come overnight however, with the company’s growth tied to a Danish policy environment that is highly supportive of green, renewable energy sources, particularly biogas.

A compact solution

Feature
A state-of-the-art plant belonging to the energy supplier and waste disposal company HEMAB in Härnösand, Sweden, produces clean biomethane with the help of a horizontal digester and a hygienisation stage from Eisenmann. The fermentation residue is used as an agricultural fertiliser.

Scraping up woodchips

Feature
Spennconn, owned by the Consolis Group, is a Norway based manufacturer of construction and railway products made from concrete. The company’s factory, located in the town of Hönefoss, has a high energy requirement for concrete drying, as well as for heating its buildings in the often bitterly cold Norwegian climate. As a result, Spennconn made an agreement with local bioenergy supplier... [read more]

Big data and the forest

Feature
Forests cover 33% of land in the EU (215Mha) and are a vital natural resource. Annually they sequestrate 719 Mt of CO2 and are an important habitat for threatened species. EU forests provide jobs and income for at least 3 million people2. Forest biomass is already the most important source of renewable energy and accounts for half of the EU’s total renewable energy consumption, which is... [read more]

The untapped power of phytophthora

Feature
The use of diseased wood to manufacture pellets can be a solution to the challengeof infectious wood disposal.

Lubricating the way to efficient biogas power generation

Feature
Why gas engine operators should look to their lubricants for productivity enhancements.

Turning industrial waste into an asset

Feature
Delivering clean water and bioenergy on factory sites.

Ideal biology

Feature
When a microbiologist addresses digester design.

A living organism

Feature
Successful biogas commissioning strategies.

The case for concrete

Feature
Whites Concrete believes that pre-cast concrete can compete and win as the design material for AD/biogas plant tanks.

Long term thinking
