On 25 September, an accident at Lignetics of Maine in Strong resulted in a worker being buried under roughly two tonnes of wood fuel pellets.

The plant, located on Norton Hill Road, produces biomass heating products for distribution across the region.

According to reports, the employee was caught beneath the sudden collapse of the pellet load during routine operations.

Colleagues on site acted immediately, digging through the pile to free him before emergency services arrived.

He was transported to hospital for treatment.
