Wood pellets boost to Canadian terminal
New improvements to the Westview Terminal have been announced by the Prince Rupert Port Authority in Canada.
Part of the developments will include docks and storage facilities to ship up to two million tonnes a year of wood pellets through the port. The project is aided by support from pellet manufacturer Pinnacle Renewable Energy and is part of a growth strategy to boost its export business.
‘Today, the primary market is Europe and that’s why the shipping logistics of this business is critical and why we were so focused on this project,’ says Pinnacle president Leroy Reitsma.
Construction on the project could begin before the end of 2012 after a successful review under the Canada Port Authority Environmental Assessment Regulations.
