Waitrose opens second UK biomass power centre
UK supermarket chain Waitrose has opened a biomass-powered energy centre to reduce grid reliance at its Bracknell branch.
The centre uses sustainable woodchips from local areas to provide CHP and was opened by climate change minister Greg Barker.
It is believed the centre will cut the branch’s carbon emissions by over 750 tonnes a year and reduce reliance on grid electricity and gas by 69% and 84% respectively.
This is Waitrose’s second branch biomass system in collaboration with service provider MITIE.
