VORN Bioenergy has announced the appointment of Jörg Lennertz as Chief Executive Officer and Manuel Fernández Durán as Chief Financial Officer, forming a new leadership team alongside Chief Operating Officer Michael Wallis Olausson.
The company said the appointments mark an important step as it moves into its next phase of expansion across Europe, with a focus on Germany, Italy, the Iberian Peninsula and Poland.
Lennertz joins VORN Bioenergy from Uniper, where he played a key role in building the company’s multi-gigawatt renewable energy business in Europe. He brings extensive experience across the full project lifecycle, from development through to execution and large-scale growth.
He succeeds Thorsten Holl, who led the business for the past three years and oversaw its restructuring and repositioning, laying the foundations for future growth.
Commenting on his appointment, Lennertz said: “VORN Bioenergy has decades of experience in realising and commercially optimising biomethane assets, and I am delighted to join the company as it enters a new phase of execution. There are significant feedstock and offtake opportunities across Europe, and I look forward to building on this momentum as we aim to become the partner of choice for suppliers and offtakers while supporting Europe’s decarbonisation.”
Fernández Durán brings more than 18 years of experience as a CFO, most recently at BlueFloat Energy. The company said his expertise in project finance and his track record in building and scaling finance teams will be instrumental in supporting VORN Bioenergy’s long-term growth strategy.
The management team is completed by Michael Wallis Olausson, who joined as Chief Operating Officer in February 2025.
He has more than 15 years of experience in the biogas industry, with particular expertise in project construction and operations.
Chris Archer, Head of Green Investments EMEA at Macquarie Asset Management, the shareholder of VORN Bioenergy, welcomed the appointments.
He said: “We would like to express our sincere thanks to Thorsten Holl and Dirk Simons for their leadership and dedication in recent years. Looking ahead, the complementary strengths that Jörg, Manuel and Michael bring to the business position VORN exceptionally well to deliver on its growth ambitions.”
