Valmet, a global developer and supplier of technologies for the pulp, paper, and energy industries, has secured an order from Saica Group to deliver a biomass boiler and flue gas cleaning system to its facility in El Burgo de Ebro, Zaragoza.

The order, which falls under Valmet’s second-quarter 2025 bookings, is set for completion by the end of 2026.

The project centres around Valmet’s Bubbling Fluidised Bed (BFB) boiler technology, which will be used to generate more than 700,000 tonnes of steam annually using biomass as fuel.

The switch from fossil fuels to renewable biomass will help drastically reduce carbon emissions and support Saica’s commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.

Juan Antonio Meler, Industrial Projects Director at Saica Group, commented: "This project is part of Saica Group’s decarbonisation plan and fully aligned with our values: ‘We Care, We Value, We Challenge’. It has received support through a PERTE (Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation) grant from the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism. We chose Valmet for their proven expertise in biomass boiler technology and our positive experience with them in previous projects. We expect this collaboration to ensure the success of this demanding venture."

The delivery will include a Valmet BFB boiler, auxiliary equipment, the boiler building, and a flue gas cleaning system equipped with a bag house filter. Valmet will also handle erection, commissioning, and start-up of the system.

Lauri Pehu-Lehtonen, Vice President of Energy and Circularity at Valmet, added: "We are delighted to support Saica in their ambitious decarbonisation project. This order highlights the vital role our advanced boiler technology plays in helping industries transition to more sustainable energy models. It reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering innovative, high-performance solutions tailored to our customers’ evolving needs."
