Uniper scales up biomethane portfolio with landmark Spanish partnership

German energy company Uniper recently signed a seven-year agreement with Spanish biomethane developer Five Bioenergy. Dorit Ost, head of biomethane and trading at Uniper’s gas & LNG trading division, tells Bioenergy Insight about the deal.

The agreement covers supply from three of Spain’s largest biomethane plants in Murcia, and is emblematic of Uniper’s strategy to expand low-carbon gas sourcing across the continent. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2027.

Scaling renewable gas across Europe

When asked how the seven-year agreement with Five Bioenergy fits into Uniper’s broader strategy, Ost explained that it represents a targeted move to diversify low-carbon gas supplies while strengthening supply reliability.
