On World Environment Day, Ulhasnagar in India marked a milestone in sustainable development with the inauguration of its first biogas plant dedicated to residential waste management.

Situated within the Regency Antilia residential complex, the facility was officially unveiled by BJP MLA Kumar Ailani alongside local BJP District President Rajesh Vadhrya.

Developed by the Regency Group, the plant is designed to process up to 4 tonnes of organic waste daily, mainly sourced from the complex’s own households.

Regency Group Chairman Mahesh Agrawal highlighted the plant’s role in converting wet waste into usable biogas and electricity, eliminating the need for landfill disposal.

Vadhrya added that the system is self-sustaining - producing 200 to 250 units of electricity per day.

It is further enhanced by the use of cow excrement from an on-site cattle shed to increase gas output.

At the event, MLA Ailani urged other housing societies in the region to follow suit, stressing the importance of decentralised, eco-friendly waste solutions.
