U-Thong Bio Power plans second biomass plant in Thailand

In Thailand, power producer U-Thong Bio Power is planning to build a biomass-fired power plant in Supanburi in the country's northwest region.

The 9.9MW facility will use rice husks and bagasse to produce renewable power that will benefit between 6,000 and 8,000 homes.

U-Thong Bio Power has commissioned Areva's Bioenergy Business Unit and its local partner Ensys to construct the $17 million (€12.9 million) plant. It is slated for completion by Q4 2013.

The power company already owns and operates a 10MW renewable power plant in Thailand. Areva has a worldwide presence, with over 100 biomass plants either under construction or in operation in Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia.
