Suzuki inaugurates biogas plant in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district

The Banas Suzuki Biogas Plant occupies 27,000 square metres and has capacity to process 100 tonnes per day of cow dung, producing sufficient fuel for approximately 850 CNG vehicles daily.
This is Suzuki's second biogas facility, following the Agthala plant which opened in December 2025. The plant will produce and sell biogas as fuel for CNG vehicles (CBG), alongside organic fertiliser derived from cow dung after biogas generation.
The opening ceremony was attended by Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat, Shankar Chaudhary, Chairman of Banas Dairy and Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly, and Kenichiro Toyofuku, Managing Officer and Executive General Manager of Biogas Operations at Suzuki.
Biogas is a carbon-neutral fuel suitable for CNG vehicles, which account for approximately 20% of India's passenger car market. The company says the technology contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while improving energy self-sufficiency.
Biogas plant operations are expected to create new employment opportunities and enhance rural income and living standards through the purchase of cattle dung.
In September 2023, Suzuki signed an agreement with the National Dairy Development Board and Banas Dairy through SRDI for the construction of five biogas plants, including the two currently operational facilities at Agthala and Bhukhala.
