SUEZ and RATP Group partner to boost sustainable urban mobility

Under the agreement, SUEZ will supply RATP Group - the world’s third-largest public transport operator - with nearly 100 GWh of renewable electricity annually.
The electricity will be generated from household waste at SUEZ’s waste-to-energy plants in France, with the contract set to run for up to 16 years, beginning in 2026.
The move supports RATP Group’s climate and energy policy, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions linked to energy consumption by 43% by 2027, compared to 2019 levels. This ambition has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative and is in line with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
The electricity supplied by SUEZ will be used to power a range of RATP Group operations - from vehicle maintenance to energy supply for stations and terminals - significantly reducing the carbon footprint of its services.
Jean-Yves Leclercq, Director of Strategy, Finance and Sustainable Performance at RATP Group, commented: "Having signed an initial long-term solar energy supply contract in 2022 and benefited from existing wind and hydroelectric power plants since 2021, the RATP Group is taking another step forward in its energy transition by partnering with SUEZ. This collaboration will help the Group achieve its goal of increasing the proportion of renewable energy in its annual electricity consumption to 15% by 2030."
David Lamy, CEO of SUEZ’s Waste France division and Director of the Fondation SUEZ, stated: "This third PPA, signed by SUEZ and a major French Group, demonstrates the benefits of SUEZ's strategy to provide recovered energy to support the industrial sector in its decarbonisation efforts.
"PPAs offer companies sustainable, secure energy at a fixed price over the long term. This is a new example of our will to support transport operators, such as RATP Group, in their efforts to promote greener, more resilient, and environmentally friendly mobility."
