‘Stop the Stink’ protesters thwart AD plant plans in UK

Protesting residents in the village of Farnsfield, UK, have stopped the construction of an anaerobic digestion plant over fears of potential smell.

Hundreds of protesters, under the slogan ‘Stop the Stink’, campaigned against the AD plant Freshgro, a company set up by nearby farmers, had proposed build in Farnsfield.

The plant, which would have used food and plant waste as feedstock, was set to be built approximately 700m away from the Wheelgate Park theme park, which is located outside the village.

Residents began the protests over fears that smell from the AD plant would negatively impact tourism.

Local authorities confirmed the application for the plant was withdrawn after more than 800 objections were received during the statutory consultation period.
