RWE to ramp up renewable energy production

RWE, a German utility company, is looking to increase the levels of renewable energy it generates in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

With a strong focus on the biogas and wind energy markets, the company is planning to invest €13 million for the construction of a biogas plant in Bergheim Paffendorf. It will convert a variety of feedstocks including sugar beets, alfalfa and manure into 7.4MW.

RWE also says it will spend €60 million on the development of wind energy projects.

RWE hopes to be generating 300MW of renewable energy by 2014 and 500MW by 2020. This is an increase on the 200MW it currently produces today.
