ReFuels N.V., one of Europe’s leading renewable biomethane suppliers for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), has launched a new public Bio-CNG refuelling station in Livingston, West Lothian in Scotland.

Operated under the CNG Fuels brand, the facility aims to support low-emission transport across much of Scotland.

Strategically positioned near major distribution hubs including Tesco, DHL, Aldi and Iceland, the Livingston station will assist fleet operators in cutting transport emissions.

The new facility can refuel up to 14 trucks simultaneously, allowing more than 600 HGVs to be serviced daily at full capacity.

Its annual output capacity is 20 million kilograms of bio-CNG. This builds on CNG Fuels’ existing network in Scotland, which includes the country’s first public-access renewable biomethane HGV refuelling station, located near Bellshill on the M8 motorway, opened in December 2021.

Bio-CNG, a low-carbon and cost-effective alternative to diesel, benefits from established infrastructure, vehicles and supply chains, according to the company.

Philip Fjeld, CEO of ReFuels, commented: "The Livingston station is well placed to serve key logistics centres, helping fleets reduce emissions across Scotland. Demand for bio-CNG trucks continues to grow among both new and existing customers as we expand our network in line with our long-term strategy."

Currently, CNG Fuels operates 15 stations across the UK, with the capability to refuel over 10,500 HGVs daily. This equates to an annual supply of more than 340 million kilograms of biomethane, potentially saving over one million tonnes of CO₂ emissions compared to diesel.

The company plans to double this refuelling capacity to 20,000 HGVs per day and over 780 million kilograms of biomethane annually by the end of 2028.
