ReFuels begins Bio-CNG station build

ReFuels, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of renewable biomethane (Bio-CNG) for heavy goods vehicle (HGV) decarbonisation, has started construction of a new public access refuelling station at Magor, South Wales, operated by CNG Fuels.
Strategically positioned near the M4 motorway, the station will serve one of the UK’s busiest freight corridors connecting London, South Wales and the Midlands.
Its location also provides access to two international airports, the Port of Newport, and major distribution hubs for operators including Tesco and AB InBev.
Currently, 2,100 HGVs refuel daily across CNG Fuels’ 16 stations nationwide.
Demand for Bio-CNG is surging, driven by the adoption of larger 6×2 gas-powered trucks, which deliver up to 90% lower emissions and around 25% cheaper fuel costs compared with diesel — or 40% lower than HVO.
“The new Magor station will support trucks travelling along the M4 corridor — one of the UK’s most vital freight routes,” said Philip Fjeld, CEO and co-founder of ReFuels.
“Together with our upcoming site in Swindon, this expansion forms part of our strategy to double the UK’s clean fuel infrastructure capacity by 2028, meeting rapidly growing demand from fleets transitioning to 100% renewable biomethane.”
When fully operational, the Magor facility will be capable of refuelling 12 trucks simultaneously, enabling over 800 HGVs to refuel per day and dispensing more than 30 million kilograms (kg) of Bio-CNG annually.
ReFuels’ existing UK network already supports 11,500 HGVs daily, providing an annual dispensing capacity exceeding 340 million kg of biomethane — equivalent to saving more than 1 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year compared with diesel.
The company plans to double capacity to refuel 20,000 HGVs per day and deliver more than 780 million kg of biomethane annually by the end of 2028.
