Planning application submitted for AD facility in West Tipperary

news item image
Plans for a major renewable energy development in West Tipperary have been lodged with the local authority.
The proposals for an anaerobic digestion facility at Ballynilard, approximately 3km from Tipperary Town on the Kilross Road, have been submitted to Tipperary County Council by Andrew Kiely and Nephin Renewable Gas.
If approved, the anaerobic digester will process manure, slurry, whole crop and other organic material to produce renewable biomethane, which serves as a direct replacement for fossil fuel natural gas.
The application states the development would consist of three digesters, two storage structures and a liquid feed tank amongst other structures.
According to the application, the project would create 75 full-time equivalent jobs.
Raw materials would be sourced from nearby agricultural operators, with 43 local farmers already confirming their willingness to supply feedstock to the 6-hectare site.
A decision is due by 15 March.
