Optimising organic waste processing with Cesaro’s UM 320 Mixer Powers

At the heart of the UM 320’s design is a tri-auger system comprising one lower and two upper augers, which work together to ensure thorough homogenisation of a wide range of substrates, including high-fibre lignocellulosic materials and digestate. The mixing chamber itself is reinforced with diamond-patterned anti-wear plates, delivering long-lasting durability and resistance to abrasion under intensive use.
Powered by a 160 kW AC motor and supported by a turbo clutch, the mixer’s heavy-duty transmission system is engineered to withstand a breaking load of one million newtons - the equivalent of 100 tonnes. It processes in excess of 70 cubic metres per hour and can operate in both continuous and batch modes, allowing flexibility to meet a variety of operational needs. Maintenance has also been considered in the design, with large access doors on either side of the mixing chamber enabling safe and efficient servicing, reducing downtime and supporting operator safety.
The performance of the UM 320 is further enhanced when used as part of an integrated processing line. Upstream, the Tiger Depack system separates organic material from packaging contaminants, producing a clean substrate ideal for downstream processing. Once mixed, the homogenised output is fed into the Girasole Tunnel Composting system, which provides a controlled aerobic environment for optimal compost maturation. Together, these systems offer a streamlined and effective route from raw waste to high-quality compost, helping facilities maximise resource recovery while reducing environmental impact.
Beyond traditional organic waste treatment, the UM 320 mixer is also proving its value in soil remediation projects. Its robust mixing capabilities allow for the even distribution of soil amendments, supporting the breakdown of contaminants and contributing to the restoration of soil health.
With its durable construction, high throughput capacity, and versatility across multiple applications, Cesaro Mac Import’s UM 320 mixer represents a significant innovation in mechanical pre-treatment for bioenergy and environmental management. Its role within integrated systems such as Tiger Depack and Girasole Tunnel Composting exemplifies a comprehensive approach to sustainable waste processing that aligns with the industry’s environmental and operational goals.
