Odisha signs partnership with Oil India to speed up waste-to-energy projects

The partnership, reported by The Statesman, supports Odisha’s broader ambitions for cleaner energy and a more circular approach to managing resources.
Under the agreement, OIL will work more closely with urban local bodies to fast-track the commissioning of compressed biogas (CBG) plants.
State officials said the collaboration is expected to strengthen Odisha’s green-growth plans by improving coordination and ensuring projects come online without delay.
Ahead of the signing, OIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Dr Ranjit Rath, led a delegation to meet Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department.
The two sides reviewed progress on six CBG plants currently being developed in the state, discussing construction timelines, operational readiness and integration with municipal waste streams to guarantee steady feedstock.
Padhee highlighted the government’s focus on sustainable waste-management solutions that reduce landfill dependency while creating local economic opportunities.
OIL representatives reaffirmed their commitment to meeting project targets and maintaining close cooperation with state authorities.
