Norrenergi AB has partnered with Belgian technology firm Vyncke to replace one of its oil-fired boilers with a high-efficiency unit fuelled by renewable wood powder.
The upgraded boiler will deliver higher output and include advanced flue-gas cleaning technology designed to cut emissions and improve overall efficiency.
Engineering and design work is now under way, with manufacturing and installation planned for 2026–27.
The unit is expected to start supplying heat in early 2027 and reach full commissioning and approval by mid-year.
“This project is a major milestone in our transition towards renewable energy sources,” said Lars Olrin, plant manager at Norrenergi. “By replacing oil with wood powder, we are reducing carbon emissions and our reliance on fossil fuels while ensuring a reliable, sustainable heat supply for our customers.”
The project is expected to make a substantial contribution to reducing the carbon footprint of Norrenergi’s district heating network, supporting both local and national climate-neutral energy goals.
“We are proud to collaborate with Norrenergi on this forward-looking project,” said Jef Mestdagh, chief sales and marketing officer at Vyncke. “Our technology enables a smooth shift from fossil-based to renewable fuels, supporting improvements in both energy efficiency and environmental performance.”
