Norwegian development investor Norfund and South African private equity firm Infra Impact have made a joint investment in Green Create, a company specialising in converting agricultural and industrial waste into renewable energy. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

The funding will enable Green Create to expand and optimise its current facilities, launch new projects, and strengthen its operations and maintenance services.

Green Create currently runs three anaerobic digestion plants – two in Worcester and Rustenburg, South Africa, and one in Mauritius.

These facilities generate biogas, electricity, thermal energy, and clean water, while also recovering nutrients to be used as fertiliser. Each site is located close to industrial clients and operates under long-term supply contracts.

Mark Van Wyk, chief executive of Infra Impact Fund Managers, said: “Partnering with Green Create gives us the opportunity to significantly increase biomethane output, helping to advance the ambitious energy targets of South Africa and Mauritius.”
