Nexterra signs research agreement with university for technology development
Biomass gasification company Nexterra has signed a research agreement with the University of British Columbia to develop a conditioning synthetic gas.
The new method will be based on Nexterra’s proprietary biomass gasification technology and will research towards developing a lower cost catalytic process for removing tars from the synthetic gas produced by Nexterra’s gasification technology.
This is the first formal agreement between the university and Nexterra but the groups have been working together since last year, with Nexterra installing a combined heat and power plant on the campus.
John Hepburn, UBC’s vice president of research says: ‘UBC’s Vancouver campus will be a living laboratory for this project, which will create research opportunities for UBC students and faculty while ultimately reinforcing British Columbia’s leadership in clean energy solutions.’
