New Russian wood pellet plant on the cards

The Vinogradovsky district in north-west Russia will be home to a new wood pellet plant.

The plant, which will employ 100 specialists, is expected to be completed by 2013 and will produce 35,000 tonnes of pellets annually.

The project will challenge the issues of lumbering wastes and low-quality lumber in the region.

Made from compacted sawdust, wood pellets are a type of fuel with high combustion efficiency. The high density of the pellets also permits compact storage and rational transport over long distance.
