New JV will enhance Canada's wood pellet export market

Two Canadian organisations, the Wood Pellet Association of Canada and the Quebec Wood Export Bureau, have partnered to help develop eastern Canada's wood pellet export market.

The joint venture, which was announced on 29 September, is expected to bring advantages to the region's industry by building on Quebec's network of wood pellet manufactures, 'mainly because of the strong competition existing on both North American and European markets', says Pierre Tremblay, chairman of the group and general manager of Lauzon Recycled Wood Energy.

Tremblay believes that the Canadian market would benefit if production companies strived to 'consolidate their gains on local markets' and increased 'access to new overseas markets'.

Comprising of wood pellet companies and other industry players, the Wood Pellet Association of Canada works with the government to help implement strategies that will encourage the production of wood pellets. The Quebec Wood Export Bureau is a non-profit organisation that highlights wood products from Quebec in export markets.
