Moeve has signed an agreement with ID Energy Group to jointly develop biomethane projects in Spain, adding up to 1 TWh of renewable gas production capacity a year.
The move builds on Moeve’s earlier partnerships with Kira Ventures, PreZero and InproEner as part of its wider Positive Motion transformation strategy.
The planned capacity is equivalent to the natural gas use of around 142,000 households and represents about 8% of the 2030 biomethane target set in Spain’s Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC).
The plants will be built in agricultural and livestock regions, repurposing an estimated 3.1 million tonnes of manure, slurry and other organic residues annually.
Adrien Souchet, Biomethane Director at Moeve, said: “With this new agreement, we continue expanding our consortium of partners to advance the development of biomethane, a key pillar of our Positive Motion strategy to advance decarbonisation and European energy independence.
"By partnering with ID Energy Group, we’re combining our strengths, bringing together their expertise in the creation and development of biomethane plants across Europe with our industrial experience and energy commercialisation capabilities.”
Julio Espadas, Managing Director of ID Energy Group, added: “Having Moeve as an industrial partner is an excellent opportunity for us to accelerate our growth, thanks to their extensive experience and leadership in the energy sector, supported by a strong track record in the energy transition.”
Moeve expects to have around 10 biomethane projects approved by the end of 2025.
The renewable gas will be used both to produce green hydrogen and as a substitute for natural gas in industry, cutting emissions from Moeve’s energy parks and chemical sites.
The company has set a target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 55% by 2030 compared with 2019 levels.
ID Energy Group, which already operates one biomethane plant and is developing more than 65 projects across Europe, said the collaboration reinforces its role in advancing the circular economy and renewable energy transition.
