Marsascala biogas plant to open later this month

The 26 November 2010 will see a biogas plant open at the Sant’Antnin waste treatment plant in Marsascala.

250,000 tonnes of waste are produced yearly by the local residents and the new facility will use a large percentage of this producing renewable energy from 71,000 tonnes of waste.

The gas extracted will generate enough electricity to power 1,400 households.

Heat will also be produced from the process and work is currently underway to transfer this heat through tubes to the nearby Inspire building to heat its swimming pool.
