Scotland-based Land Energy, a leading producer of sustainable wood biomass products, has strengthened its automation capabilities with the installation of a collaborative robot (COBOT) at its Girvan factory.
Manufactured in Denmark by Universal Robots, the COBOT is designed to work safely alongside human operators and can process up to four tonnes of product per hour.
The stainless steel and high-grade plastic unit is highly adaptable and operates independently within the briquette production line, with advanced safety features that allow it to detect humans, adjust its movements, or shut down if necessary.
The project forms part of Land Energy’s ongoing strategy to enhance efficiency, support innovation, and advance sustainability goals.
The installation was completed in just two days, thanks to an accelerated turnaround, and is now fully integrated into production operations.
The initiative was supported by South Ayrshire Council’s Ambition to Grow programme, which helps SMEs increase sales outside the Ayrshire region and create local employment opportunities.
Representatives from the council, including Team Lead Jane Toye and Business Start-up & Growth Advisor Lorna Stevenson, visited the facility to learn more about the project.
Reg Stewart, Business Excellence Lead, and Ian Robertson, Continuous Improvement Engineer, led the project from concept to completion, identifying the opportunity for the COBOT and overseeing its installation.
