Jasper Clean Energy abandons biomass plans

Jasper Clean Energy has pulled the plug on a project that would have seen it develop a biomass-fired power plant in Indiana, US.

The generating station would have produced 75MW from miscanthus feedstock.

According to a letter sent by the company's CEO Jay Catasein, the project is no longer financially viable due to a number of reasons:
• The large abundance of cheap natural gas reserves
• A decrease in price for other renewable sources, such as wind and solar power
• A lack of demand for electricity
• Site limitations such as the electrical transmission line running from the power plant.
