IVECO BUS introduces first batural gas chassis in Argentina

The company handed over twenty units of its BUS 17-210 G model to public transport operator Metropol, marking a milestone for cleaner urban transit in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA).
These new vehicles, intended for routes in the municipality of Escobar, make it the first area in Argentina to operate a bus line entirely powered by natural gas. The initiative represents a significant step in modernising public transport while supporting energy transition and reducing environmental impact.
Marcio Querichelli, IVECO BUS Head of Bus Commercial Operations in Latin America, said the project reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation: “Integrating gas buses into public transport networks demonstrates our dedication to cleaner and more efficient cities.”
Manufactured at IVECO BUS’s Córdoba plant, the BUS 17-210 G chassis features the FPT N60 engine and nine 80-litre fuel tanks, providing a range of up to 350 kilometres.
While delivered with compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems, the buses are also fully compatible with renewable natural gas or biomethane, allowing operators to run them on locally sourced renewable fuels and further reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The rollout involved collaboration with local partners Overbus, IVECO BUS’s official dealer in Argentina, and Italbus, a bodybuilder specialising in urban and interurban buses.
The new buses will operate on lines 504 and 507 in Escobar, making Metropol the only operator in the country with a fully natural gas-powered line. Metropol manages 27 routes covering 120 million kilometres annually and transports over 230 million passengers across the Buenos Aires metropolitan region.
