Heizkraft Zwickau selects Metso to supply modularised biomass power plant

In Germany, Heizkraft Zwickau Süd GmbH is developing a biomass-fired power plant, for which Metso will supply the modularised biomass power plant for combined heat and power (CHP) production.

The CHP plant will be delivered by the Mesto-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. The value of the order is about €20 million.

The plant will start transporting electricity to the gird in late 2012, generating power from forest residues and wood-based landscaping material. When in operation, the plant will generate up to 10MW of heat for the city of Zwickau and around 5MW of electricity for the power grid.

This will be MW Power's eighth delivery of a modularised CHP plant to Germany.
