Germany out to support Philippines bioenergy push
The Philippines bioenergy industry is set to be boosted by support coming from eight companies based in Germany.
Representatives from the companies, including Envitec Biogas, Pregobello and GTP Solutions, are in Asia looking for projects and partnerships in which they can provide technology and share knowledge.
As the Philippines starts to look beyond fossil fuels, bioenergy is seen as a viable way forward and a Feed-In Tariff scheme was implemented last year by the Department of Energy.
‘The Philippines has a wide range of alternative energy sources,’ Werner Siemers, consultant for Germany GIZ (a federal division that supports the German government in the field of international sustainable development), was quoted as saying. ‘Fortunately it already has many things in place to make the shift to renewable energy possible, particularly in regard to biomass and biogas.’
