Gasum has opened its ninth liquefied biogas (LBG) filling station in Norway, located at Moskog Business Park in Førde, within the Sunnfjord municipality.

The new facility strengthens Gasum’s expanding Nordic network and responds to growing demand from both regional and national logistics operators seeking low-emission fuel solutions. The station is also open to the public.

Originally launched as a pilot in collaboration with the Grønt Landtransportprogram (Green Land Transport Programme – GLP) and grocery chain REMA, the project was driven by strong engagement from the transport industry.

REMA has identified biogas as a central component of its sustainability strategy: “At REMA, we are concerned about our environmental impact and we work purposefully every day to reduce our emissions,” said Anders Hustoft, Transport Director at Rema Distribusjon Norway AS.

“In transport, our goal is to replace all our own fossil fuel vehicles by the end of 2026. Biogas is part of the solution. Gasum has proven to be positive and proactive in the establishment of new filling stations, as evidenced by the recent opening in Førde. Our collaboration enables us to operate an increasing number of biogas vehicles, and continued development of the biogas network is essential to reach our climate-neutral transport goals.”

GLP CEO Ingelin Noresjø highlighted the Førde pilot as one of the programme’s most effective initiatives to date: “We have gathered the value chain to find solutions that quickly cut emissions.”

Bjørn Røst Kjørmo, GLP’s advisor who led the project operationally, praised the pace of development: “In November 2023, we brought together biogas stakeholders and local transport operators in Førde. Now the station is already operational. This is a model example of efficient local project delivery.”

Jogeir Munkeby, Sales Manager for Traffic at Gasum Norway, welcomed the opening as a strategic milestone: “This new station is an important addition to our nationwide and regional network. Moskog is a vital logistics hub, and this site will enable local operators to reduce emissions from both regional and long-haul transport, including routes to Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen.

"We are seeing a marked increase in interest in biogas from large logistics firms across Norway. By expanding our Nordic network, we are providing companies with the opportunity to make a real impact on emissions.”

Biogas offers an average 90% reduction in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels, and significantly lower nitrogen oxide emissions, contributing to improved air quality, said Gasum.

The transport sector accounts for around a third of Norway’s total emissions, with road transport responsible for approximately half of that.
