Gasum and Preem to expand biogass access for Swedish transport sector

Gasum has partnered with Preem to give Swedish logistics operators greater access to renewable biogas.
Under the agreement, Preem’s corporate customers will be able to use their fuel cards to refuel at Gasum’s nationwide network of biogas stations.
The cooperation covers both liquefied biogas (LBG) and compressed biogas (CBG) and will be available to Preem cardholders before the end of December.
All purchases will be consolidated into a single invoice, simplifying administration for fleet operators.
Road transport is responsible for about a third of Sweden’s greenhouse gas emissions, which rose by 18% last year.
Authorities including the Swedish Energy Agency and the Climate Policy Council have warned that increasing the share of renewable fuels such as biogas will be essential to meet national climate targets.
Sharareh Edström, Head of Traffic Sweden at Gasum, said: “Since entering the Swedish market in 2019, we have been building a nationwide network of LBG filling stations to help trucking companies reach their emission-reduction goals. With the network now in place, this partnership makes it even easier for more logistics providers and drivers to choose sustainable alternatives and to be a part of the transition to cleaner transports.”
Daniel Granquist, Business Development at Preem, added: “Biogas is a fantastic product that can be produced from food waste, manure, damaged crops or wastewater from industry. By making use of these wastes, biogas contributes to a circular economy and reduces our dependence on importing fossil energy. The fact that we at Preem can now offer our customers both CBG and LBG through Gasum's nationwide station network is really positive.”
Preem said the collaboration strengthens its position as a full-service provider of fuels by combining access to renewable gases with conventional fuels, helping transport companies reduce emissions while maintaining operational flexibility.
Jim Niesel, Head of Sales CRT at Preem, said: “This collaboration with Gasum is an important step in our ambition to offer the market’s most comprehensive and sustainable portfolio of fuels. It allows us to better meet our customers’ growing demand for alternative fuels – while simplifying their day-to-day operations with an integrated solution.”
