Gas Malaysia unveils nation’s first centralised biomethane injection station in Johor

This new facility marks a major step forward in the company’s commitment to renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions.
The station, developed by Gas Malaysia’s fully owned subsidiary, Gas Malaysia Green Ventures Sdn Bhd (GMGV), is scheduled to become operational in the latter half of 2025.
Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, chairman of Gas Malaysia, described the launch as a pivotal achievement in advancing the company’s GM32 strategy, which emphasises cleaner energy solutions and sustainability across sectors.
“This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to lowering carbon footprints and supporting industries in their shift towards green energy,” Wan Zulkiflee said during the unveiling.
The project aligns with key national frameworks, including the National Energy Policy 2022-2040, the National Energy Transition Roadmap, and the National Biomass Action Plan for 2023-2030.
The Kluang station is strategically positioned to collect biomethane produced from nearby palm oil mills, acting as a centralised injection point to feed renewable gas into Malaysia’s main gas grid.
This innovative effort transforms palm oil waste into valuable renewable biomethane, fostering a circular economy while enhancing the sustainability of the plantation industry’s supply chain.
Certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), the green gas produced will enable industrial users to meet environmental targets and improve market opportunities for local biomethane suppliers.
Plantation and commodities minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani attended the event, where he witnessed the signing of a financing agreement with AmBank (M) Bhd and a collaboration memorandum with Evonik to explore further green technology ventures.
Gas Malaysia also received official recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records, commemorating the launch of the country’s first centralised biomethane injection facility.
Wan Zulkiflee concluded: “We are committed to fostering strategic partnerships and driving sustainable growth that delivers enduring value for all stakeholders.”
