Fire damages pellet plant

The Energex American-owned wood pellet production plant in Juniata County, Pennsylvania has been damaged after a fire broke out on the morning of 29 March.

The four-alarm fire and subsequent dust explosion inside a warehouse used for storing pellets is reported to have destroyed the office and sawdust warehouse, and one firefighter was taken to hospital. The processing part of the plant was not damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, however it is thought that an electrical fault is to blame.

Between 75 and 85 fire fighters responded to the blaze, which took around six hours to extinguish.
