Expansion planned for Flint biogas plant

A biogas plant under construction in Flint, Michigan, US, could undergo expansion before operations commence.

A joint venture between renewable energy company Swedish Biogas International and the City of Flint, the plant will produce biogas from waste, including primary and secondary sludge.

The biogas will be used in the natural gas network and also for the production of renewable electricity.

Talking about the expansion plans, Swedish Biogas CEO Tom Guise says: 'You need to be in the black to be green,' and went on to explain that an expanded plant would bring in more revenue and create more jobs.

The project will see total investment increase from $9 million (€6.6 million) to $13 million.
