EnviTec Biogas secures first biogas upgrading project in Belgium

The agreement covers the construction of a biogas upgrading plant with integrated CO₂ liquefaction.
“The plant will connect to an existing biogas facility and, once completed in July 2026, will inject 735 Nm³/h of biomethane into the Belgian gas grid,” said Maurice Markerink, Managing Director of EnviTec Plant Construction.
In addition, the facility will produce 24 tonnes of bio-LCO₂ on-site each day. “This allows us to actively support the supply of green energy and promote a circular CO₂ economy,” added Roel Slotman, CEO of Byont.
Alongside implementing the EnviThan gas upgrading system with CO₂ liquefaction, EnviTec Biogas, based in Lower Saxony, will oversee the conversion of the existing biogas plant.
“This ensures the entire facility meets the latest industry standards,” Markerink noted.
Two further biogas plants operated by Byont are currently in the planning and approval stages.
“We also plan to convert these Dutch plants to biomethane production with CO₂ liquefaction technology, leveraging EnviTec Biogas’s engineering expertise,” Slotman explained.
Byont develops, operates, and invests in biogas projects across the Benelux region and Germany, converting organic residues into renewable gases such as biomethane and bio-LNG, and contributing to a decarbonised energy future.
