EnviTec Biogas commissions first biomethane upgrading facility in Slovakia

EnviTec Biogas has successfully commissioned its inaugural EnviThan gas upgrading facility in Slovakia, marking a milestone in the company’s expansion across Eastern Europe.
Located in Bierovce, the plant has begun injecting biomethane into the local gas grid, enhancing the region’s renewable energy infrastructure.
The facility has a processing capacity of 449 normal cubic metres per hour (Nm³/h) of biomethane.
It was integrated into an existing biogas plant operated by ENERGE s.r.o., and processes a feedstock mix comprising approximately 70% food and organic industrial waste, along with poultry manure, corn and grass silage.
The project utilises EnviTec’s proprietary membrane-based gas upgrading technology, developed in collaboration with industry partners, which enables biomethane production with a methane concentration of up to 98%.
This meets stringent grid injection standards and eliminates the need for fossil-based propane additives, according to the company.
EnviTec’s Czech subsidiary, based in Velké Meziříčí, was instrumental in the delivery and execution of the project.
Its proximity to major transport infrastructure ensures effective logistics, fast access to spare parts and reliable on-site service capabilities.
Following this successful deployment, EnviTec is advancing a second Slovakian project in Ožďany.
This involves the installation of a 417 Nm³/h EnviThan plant at an existing biogas site operated by agricultural firm CITA VIA.
The facility currently processes cow and poultry manure and will expand to include a broader waste stream.
The plant is being designed to handle 750 Nm³/h of raw biogas, with potential scalability up to 1,300 Nm³/h.
These developments are aligned with Slovakia’s national strategy to increase renewable energy production, with biomethane playing a key role.
